Winter Soltice

The Winter Solstice is one of my favorite days. The fact that we are on the path to more sunlight during the day thrills me to no end. I don't have too much to complain about the Alaskan winters except that I'm awfully tired. By January 1st 12 minutes of sunlight time will be added to the day. I'll take those 12 minutes. I think Burke is missing out on the sunshine too. Thankfully we're heading to Hawaii in February for some much needed sun time.

Burke Got Shot...Vaccinated That Is

Today was Burke's 2 month well-baby check up. As of today he weighs 13 lbs 11ozs and is 24 1/2 inches long. He's growing like a weed and exceeded our expectations. Of course we had to end the appointment with 3 shots (which Burke hated) and some sugary concoction with the Rotavirus vaccine (which Burke loved). Burke had no idea what was going on when it happened. First he was hit by shock, then the silent cry, followed by turning beet red and then he gulped in some air and the screams began. I should have been a better mommy and held him or nursed him during this awful experience. Next time.

Our goal is to give him more tummy time to work on his neck muscle strength and making sure he chokes down the vitamins which are somewhat essential up here because with little sun it's hard to get Vitamin D.

The Big Promotion

Justin is now a Major. He was promoted on Friday, December 4th. This was a big day for us! I was so happy to be present for this special occasion. Justin was in Germany or Iraq for the past two promotions so I consider myself lucky to have Justin home now. Burke was the perfect baby - he slept during the whole event. I am so proud of Justin!!

Sweet Precious Baby

Burke is 16 days old in the precious pictures. He did such a great job posing for the photographer. She coaxed him to sleep with lots of heat. Now Burke is 2 months old and he's so much bigger. He's smiling at us and telling us great stories. We've loved every minute and can't wait for more! Burke is 2 months in the two pictures below.

So I am Bad at this Blogging Thing

My goal was to write daily or at least weekly. It's not happening. My new goal is to do better. I need to at least post pictures of Burke every few days. He's growing so fast. Yesterday he was 8 weeks old.

Bath Time

Justin takes such good care of Burke. From the get-g0 Justin was changing diapers in the hospital while I was stuck in bed and he hasn't stopped changing them yet. I am not looking forward to him heading back to work on Tuesday. I am so thankful the Army gave him 10 days of paternity leave for free. He decided to take another week while Grammie Becky visits. Grammie said that Justin will have to come home every 3 hours to help me with the changing, etc. and I think she might be right.

Here Justin is helping me with Burke's sponge bath. We can't wait for his cord to fall off so we can give him a real bath. Hopefully he'll like the water.

Professional Photos

Today we traveled to an in-home photography studio to have newborn photos taken of Burke. We were a little on the late side as far as newborn age goes, but he'll look absolutely adorable at 16 days. The photographer did a great job at coaxing him to sleep and posed him in the cutest ways. His last pose was on a sheep skin rug and unfortunately he was so relaxed he took a little poo. We were happy to hear he wasn't the first one to do this. He also pee'd in mommy's hands and pee'd and poo'd in daddy's hands. At least we know his digestive system works quite well!

We can't wait to see the photos and hopefully we'll be able to share them with everyone.

Waiting...

We're still waiting! The little guy likes it inside where it's warm and cozy. Don't blame him. It's chilly outside.

I came down with a cold on Monday and have been miserable the last few days. Justin is taking very good care of me.

My mom comes on Friday. Can't wait to see her! And she can't wait to meet "Cashew". Hopefully he makes a timely entrance - like maybe tomorrow or Friday. Justin keeps talking to the belly and telling him to come out now. The little guy is already showing that he has selective hearing. Uh oh!

Happy Birthday Justin!

September 17, 2009

Happy Birthday, Justin! We celebrated his birthday on his actual birthday. That doesn't happen that often in the military. We're so thankful for the time we have together. Justin opened gifts and then we went to Orso for a yummy dinner.

About This Blog

We moved to the Last Frontier during the summer of 2009. Since we are a LONG ways from family we figured a blog was a great way to share our adventures of parenthood and our exploration of Alaska.
